Sailors On Board Operation Atalanta Warship ESPS Victoria Cast Their Vote for Spain’s General Election
December 17, 2015 - 13:07During her recent port visit to Salalah, Spanish warship, ESPS Victoria, became a polling station for the day to enable the 220 sailors on board to cast their vote for Spain’s general election. The election will take place on Sunday 20 December 2015.
The warship and her crew are currently deployed as part of the European Union’s counter-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia. As they were so far from home the sailors were able to cast their votes by mail, with some of the cabins on board being turned into a voting station.
To ensure the voting was conducted correctly, ESPS Victoria hosted an official election representative, who carried the sealed voting papers back to Spain in time for the General Election.
